In case we’ve not met before, I’m Dr Dan Maggs. I’m a UK-based GP. I had struggled with my weight since my teenage years.
In 2016 I was away skiing in France when I met someone who changed my thoughts about weight loss. In a little over six months after that trip, I’d lost over 50 pounds and reversed my obesity.
He helped me understand my weight issues in a way I was never taught at medical school, but that just made so much sense.
For the last few years, I’ve been running online programs to give others the knowledge and support to do what I did.
My clients have had incredible success, and I’d like to invite you to spend the next 8 weeks working with me, so you can become one of my next success stories!
It’s intro week right now, so you’ll get immediate access to as soon as you join the challenge. During the 8 week program you’ll have the opportunity to work closely with me and my head coach Tessa.
We'll teach you how to get into ketosis and become adapted to burning fat. But that's just the start.
You'll learn everything from the science about how this works, how to integrate it into your life, and how to maintain weight when you've lost it!
Oh, and my superpower is making this stuff really simple (so you don't need a degree in biochemistry to follow along)!
You're going to have questions along the way! That's completely normal. But I don't want you to get stuck.
So, I'll be hosting weekly live coaching calls where you can ask me anything. That way we get you unstuck very quickly and back to making progress.
And don't worry if you can't make these calls live... All these calls are recorded and you can submit questions in advance.
Yes, we'll teach you how to formulate your own meals and build your own meal plans during the program .... but you're going to need some meal plans to get you started.
These aren't your normal meal plans where you're cooking all the time. These are cost effective, easy to shop for and simple to cook, and they actually work!
Many people start the program with ZERO cooking skills and end up cooking delicious meals from the plan for the whole family.
This is actually my favourite part of the program. You'll be a part of a thriving community in our Facebook Group.
Why is this so important? Because what we're doing here is counter-cultural. Being around other people who are doing what you're doing is absolutely priceless.
You’ll have access to support from your course-mates and experienced alumni who’ve walked in your shoes and know exactly what you’re struggling with (and how to fix it) for 24/7 support.
Every week we'll be hosting a series of live workshops. These are zoom calls where we get to have more of a "back and forth" type discussion than is possible on the live "teaching" calls.
This is perfect for when we're doing stuff like Our Goal Setting & Accountability Workshops (where you get to work out what your personal goals are).
Or, our Low Carb Living Workshop where we get to work out how you're going to face the challenges that you've got coming up in your life.
We want you to feel 100% supported during your challenge. So if you're still feeling like you need some additional support then come drop in to our "office hours" sessions.
These are where myself and Tessa will be available, on zoom call where you can drop in for a chat about anything that you're struggling with.
These will be at set times during the week and you can literally just drop by for a chat whenever they're on!
I’m so excited to welcome you to the challenge. Intro week is happening now! We’ll be getting everyone up to speed this week, before starting the live calls next week.
This week’s calls are about setting you up for success by taking you through what you need to know before you start.
We know that some of you will have Pre-diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes, or are worried about developing it.
This group session (hosted by Tessa, our resident Diabetes Specialist Nurse) will help you get your head around the additional information you need.
The Challenge Starts Properly this week.
In this first session I’ll be taking you through the reasons you’ve failed before and why we need to think about how the body gains and loses weight in a different way.
We’ve also got a goal setting workshop so that you can set some smart goals and be held accountable as you work through the challenge.
In week 2 we’re going to be looking at all the amazing options you’ve got when it comes to the Carb Dodging way of eating.
I’ll be taking you through the basics of how to formulate your meals, the carb contents of common foods and how to make simple modifications to classic meals to make them low carb friendly.
We’re also going to be covering what fats we should and shouldn’t be using for cooking / dressings etc.
This is a topic that we really need to get our heads around to fully understand what is going on inside our bodies. This is part 1 of 2 videos I’ll be releasing during the challenge on this topic.
We spend a lot of time focusing on the macronutrients (protein, carbs & fats) – but we also need to consider the micronutrients (vitamins & minerals). We don’t need much of them, but they’re very important for our health. I’ll also be answering a very common question… “Should we take supplements, and if so… what?”
Not everyone in the program will have issues with food addiction, but many of us (myself included) have a harmful relationship with food.
This is something we need to address early on.
I’ll be showing you how to use tools such as MyFitness Pal to calculate meals to your ideal macros.
I’m going to show you a really cool website that makes planning your week’s meals very very easy!
We don’t live in a bubble. Living a low carb life really goes against much of modern life. So we’re going to need some strategies to succeed.
We’ll be covering everything from eating out, to going on holiday, through to integrating low carb into your family life. We’ll also be discussing alcohol and how to eat low carb on a budget.
This is the final part of last weeks important look into this topic.
This is a strategy session where we actually get to talk about real life events that you’ve got coming up and how we can strategise around them.
We’ve already been learning how we can manipulate body weight using what we eat, it’s time to look at the other major way … when we eat.
Intermittent fasting might sound simple – but is some important things you need to know to get the most out of it. In this session I’m going to be taking you through everything you’ll need to know to get started with intermittent fasting.
These aren’t for everyone…. but there is definitely some good reasons beyond weight loss why you might want to do longer fasts… I’ll be covering those in this (optional) session.
There are a few subtle additional changes that women may wish to consider. Tessa will be taking you through these in this sesssion.
I love this session and it’s so important that we address the myths in nutrition that don’t have any evidence when we dive deeper into them. It’s time to uncover the truth!
One of the major things I had to get my head around was “isn’t eating lots of saturated fat going to kill me?” and it’s probably something that is on your mind too. We’re going to to be looking into where this came from and why you don’t need to worry. (We’ll be covering all things Cholesterol and Statins too)
We’ll also be looking at whether Fibre is really good for us, and whether Salt is really bad for us!
Following on from Mondays lessons I’ll be explaining “What Are Good Fats & Bad Fats”.
This session is aimed at addressing one of the major blocks to weight loss… STRESS. You’ll learn why stress is an issue, and whilst we don’t have a solution for all of life’s stresses, we can provide you with some simple strategies to help begin to manage it better.
Why did we leave exercise until week 6? Because I want you to realise just how powerful diet is alone. You don’t need to exercise to lose weight. Nor can you outrun a bad diet. But exercise is important for overall health and we’re going to help you find what works for you.
My view on exercise has changed considerably over the last few years in response to emerging science in this field.
I’ll be taking you through the importance of strength training, high intensity training and how do to endurance exercises (like running) so that they maximise weight loss.
It’s important to get the balance between these types of exercises right and i’ll be teaching you how.
This interactive session builds on what we’ve learned in Monday’s lesson and is dedicated to helping you find a plan of exercise that works for you.
Weight loss is never linear. It’s almost an inevitability that we get stuck somewhere along the way. But don’t worry. This week we’ve got you covered.
Weight loss stalling typically happens for one of a small number of reasons. In this session I’ll be taking you through each of these, step by step, so that if / when you do get stuck, you’ll be able to breeze on through without an issue.
Poor sleep can get in the way of effective weight loss for a number of different reasons. Tessa will be taking you through these, then showing you some different ways that you can improve your sleep.
In the final week of the challenge I’m going to get you to think about the final stage of your journey – how to maintain your weight loss, once you’ve lost it!
Should you stay in a strict state of ketosis, or can you moderate? The answer might not be as straightforward as you think. But don’t worry. By the end of this session you’ll definitely have a good idea how to approach this stage.
This is a strategy session with Tessa based on what we learned in the Monday lesson. Tessa will be working with you to help you plan your personal maintenance strategy.
“I no longer have a persistent cough or GERD. I am no longer prediabetic. I am no longer anemic. I just feel good!”
“I started 2020 Obese (almost 34 BMI) and lonely. I was ashamed of the weight I had gained over the last decade and had shut myself off from the world.
I blamed myself and thought “If you REALLY wanted to lose weight you would.” I began low carb Jan 18, 2020.
Through Dan’s program, I learned how what and when you eat affects fat storage. I was supported with education, meal plans, coaching, and community. I made friends who understood me and helped me through my journey.
One year later, I am a healthy weight and ready to enjoy my life. I have lost 57lbs and 8 inches off both my waist and hips. I am also feeling healthier in many other ways.
My joints don’t ache. My skin is clear and more youthful. I no longer have a persistent cough or GERD.
I am no longer prediabetic. I am no longer anemic. I just feel good!
I have gained lifelong skills and confidence. I highly recommend The Carb Dodging Challenge”.
I can’t believe looking at these photos it’s me! I’m not sure what my maintenance weight is yet as I’ve never been this slim since I was growing up.
However, I have no doubt I will get there and Carb Dodgers has been essential in me having this confidence.
The program has given me huge confidence in the low-carb lifestyle and that it isn’t some weirdo fad but has proper science behind it.
The Carb Dodging Challenge is my Signature Program, I designed this based on what I wish I had back when I started my first calorie controlled diet in my early teens. I’ve seen results that have blown me away.
This is why I have full confidence to be able to offer you this program at zero risk. Because if you complete the challenge…if you learn everything I teach in the course, and you bring your weight loss challenges to the coaching sessions and you still don’t lose weight…
I’ll give you a FULL refund.
If you complete this challenge and do not lose weight, I’ll give you your money back. All you need to do is send me an email with the date you submitted your weight loss challenges at coaching and I’ll refund you.
Have you still got questions? No problem! I like questions! In fact… the people who get the BEST results out of The Carb Dodging Challenge are the ones who show up and ask questions.
They don’t let me off the hook until they’ve got exactly what they need to make their next step forwards.
And I LOVE this about them.
So here are some of the most frequently asked questions I get. If the answer you need isn’t there then please click on the “Need Help?” button in the bottom right of your screen and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
Great question.
Over years of helping patients with their weight and diabetes issues, I’ve met very few people who have achieved their goals with minimal involvement from me… It’s the very reason that I developed this program.
Why? Because it’s hard.
We live in a world that is pretty much dead set against us achieving our goals. Despite knowing what the right path is, it’s easy to get distracted and demotivated. And it’s not because there’s a lack of information out there. There isn’t … the problem is the opposite – far too much information.
You may have met me on YouTube… I love YouTube… but the experience of learning on YouTube differs greatly from an expertly curated program with a tried and tested learning pathway. That’s what you’re getting with The Carb Dodging Challenge.
And when you have questions, it’s best to get them answered quickly by someone who knows where you’re at and where you’re going next.
I completely understand where you’re coming from. I’ve been through many disappointments on my journey here too. If you turn up and this doesn’t work for you. I will give you your money back… seriously!
I haven’t done my job if you don’t lose weight in this program – I’m that confident that this will work for you.
BUT you DO have to do your part. You need to take action. You need to watch the training calls, you do need to eat the way you’re learning how to eat in the program.
And you DO need to bring your weight loss challenges to me in the coaching sessions so I can help you.
If you do all this, and you still don’t see results then I’ll give you a full refund.
Please only join the program if you’re genuinely ready for change and you’re willing to take action.
The Carb Dodging Challenge is focused on long-term sustainable weight loss. And that’s not my salesman pitch!
By the end of the 8 weeks you’ll know how to fuel your body to prevent weight gain, and the coaching and community elements will help you move through some of the mindset blocks that’ve been holding you back.
This is so much more than changing what you eat. Plus the plan I take you through isn’t restrictive, you can eat large amounts of delicious food and so there isn’t the feeling of deprivation or urge to binge eat when you finish like there is when a ‘traditional diet’ ends.
Unfortunately due to the nature of the meal plans we are unable to accommodate diets which do not allow for animal products.
The Live Training calls will be on Monday Evenings at 7pm UK time for the most part.
I don’t want you to worry if you can’t make the calls live tho. Yes, it’s great if you can, and you get to ask questions live, but the call will be there to watch back if you can’t make the calls.
During the live training calls, and the coaching calls, it will just be me that is visible on the calls.
The group workshops will be hosted on zoom. You can have your camera off or on as you wish.
The Carb Dodging Challenge Facebook Group is the beating heart of everything we do. All the live calls are hosted in this group.
So you need to join Facebook!
Now, I know some of you will have some concerns about joining Facebook (and I understand).
But we’ve tried this several different ways and Facebook is by far the best community experience.
We’ve had a number of people who wanted some anonymity join under false names… that’s fine.
But if you’re not willing to join Facebook, then I’m sorry, this is not the program for you.
Our meal plans are really really simple. We’ve had people who’ve never really cooked for themselves in their entire lives actually enjoy cooking their meals and sharing them in the group.
So don’t worry if you’re not a pro chef!
I know this is a big worry for people at the moment with the price of food (and everything) going up.
This is a topic we cover in the challenge too.
This way of eating shouldn’t be more expensive than current way of eating for several reasons.
But basically… lean protein is the fundamentally most expensive thing in anyones diet… and we’re no longer restricted to lean protein, so the price goes down.
People tend to snack much less with this way of eating and eat fewer meals overall.
So when you consider your overall food budget… it’s likely to go down!
If you follow our meal plans you’re also likely to save money as you will find there is very little waste
We will be rerunning the challenge in September 2023. The price will likely be increased at that point too.
If you’re looking for a perfect time to start this challenge, it’s unlikely that it will ever come. Life will always get in the way. This challenge teaches us how to integrate this into our busy lives.
If you’re considering this, I strongly advise you to do it now.
When the 8 weeks is over the challenge Facebook Group will be archived.
You’ll still be able to access everything that is in there for as long as you want, but nothing new will be posted, and you won’t be able to post any comments.
We do have an ongoing support program for those who wish to continue their journey. It’s called The Carb Dodgers Club and you’ll receive your invite to join at the end of the program.
